How it works

    Concentration = vial amount ÷ water added

    Volume per dose = dose amount ÷ concentration

    Units to draw = volume per dose × 100 for a U-100 syringe, or × 40 for a U-40 syringe

Worked example

A 10 mg vial with 2 ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg/ml. A 1 mg dose is 0.2 ml, which is 20 units on a U-100 syringe.

Frequently asked questions

How many units is my dose?

Divide your dose by the vial concentration to get the volume in ml, then multiply by 100 for a U-100 syringe or 40 for a U-40 syringe.

Does it handle mg and mcg?

Yes. Set the unit toggle to mcg and the calculator uses mcg consistently across the vial amount and dose amount.

Does it account for reconstitution?

Yes. Enter your vial amount and the water you added and the calculator works out the concentration before computing your dose volume.

Can I use it for any compound?

Yes. The calculator works on any vial amount, water amount, and dose you enter, regardless of compound.

What happens if my dose is larger than the vial?

The calculator shows a warning instead of a result, because that dose cannot be drawn from the vial as reconstituted.
